the Song River Story

ABOUT US

Song River started as a vision of owner Quyen Huynh, who saw a way to transform this beautiful space and bring more vibrancy to the community of downtown Monroe. With the hope to build on and build up other women entrepreneurs, Quyen works with exceptional women to create a foundation for Song River.

THE SPACE

Song River was once known as The Eagles Club for many decades, a watering hole for all Monrovians to gather and celebrate. Almost everyone who grew up in Monroe has spent time here with family and friends. Between 2008 through 2017, this building took on identities of a steak house, a BBQ joint, and a fine dining restaurant. Over the years, the space morphed and transformed with each different tenant. Finally in 2018, the owner decided that it is time to give this uniquely large and beautiful space an opportunity to shine. With 16,000 square feet of space, original hardwood floors, two commercial kitchens and being in Historic Downtown, Song River received a complete make-over, and opened its doors in November 2018. Keeping its roots as a place of gathering, as with The Eagles Club, Song River’s owners hope to continue its legacy as a location where special moments begin.

THE NAME

Song River is about tradition and transcended love. Wanting to honor the beautiful landscape that is Monroe, the owners kept “River” in the name as a reminder of the Skykomish Valley. The flow of a river is similar to that of life, with moments of serenity and times of dangerous twisting currents. Water is also a powerful symbol of hope, renewal and life. Besides the obvious English definition of Song, a composition of musical notes, Song also has multiple other meanings. As Vietnamese Americans, the owners wanted to honor their heritage. Sông in Vietnamese means River. Without the accent mark, Song in Vietnamese also mean parallel, as in traveling in parallel. Thus, Song River is the ebb and flow of the music of life, a symbol of renewal and hope, and a journey to be traveled with meaningful companionship.
